About
David August and Friends is a group of seasoned musicians who take familiar music and reimagine it in fresh, exciting ways. What started as David’s jazzy arrangements of Protestant hymns quickly grew into a full band exploring popular artists like Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder. Each musician shines as a soloist, and the band’s genre-bending style—funk, rock, reggae, bop, latin, country—creates a warm, dynamic soundscape with plenty of improvisation. Their shows have a communal, heartfelt energy that makes every performance feel personal and unforgettable. Join us and experience it live!

The Jazz Sunday Collective album is a collection of hymn arrangements and original songs by David August. In 2016, David asked his friend and mentor, John Patitucci, for help in recording an album to raise money for two local charities. John was all in to make the album a reality! Moving forward with the plan, mutual friends from our church family and beyond, also wonderfully accomplished musicians, enthusiastically and generously offered up their time and talent to record the Jazz Sunday Collective.

Over two days in February 2017, the basic rhythm tracks consisting of piano, bass, and drums, as well as the string quartet intro to the cut, Love Immeasurable, were recorded in John’s basement. The remaining recording of the cello, electric guitar, and vocals were made in two other local studios during the spring of the same year. The 12 selections on the album alternate between instrumental works and vocal works, culminating with the larger production track, Love Immeasurable.
In January 2018, the album was released. As conceived, all it’s proceeds have, and continue to be given to Hillside Food Outreach, and Caring For the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill. Today, these recordings can be found on Spotify and Apple Music. Additionally, CDs are available by contacting David on
